Historical Brief of Gidauniyar Jihar Katsina

Gidauniyar Jihar Katsina was launched at the Katsina Polo Ground on Saturday, 5th January,1991, as a non governmental organization. The Board of Trustees was formally inaugurated on Friday, 22nd February, 1991 under the chairmanship of Gen. (Dr.) Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR from 1991-2009.

The Late Galadiman Katsina, Justice Mamman Nasir, GCON took over following the voluntary retirement of the pioneer Chairman. He served from 2009 to 2019. After the death of Galadiman Katsina, Dr. U.A. Mutallab, CON took over as Chairman from 2019 to date. The Emir of Katsina, His Royal Highness, Alh (Dr.) Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, CFR; the Emir of Daura, His Royal Higness, Alh (Dr.) Umar Farouq Umar, OFR and Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR serve as Patrons.

Aims & Objectives

Gidauniyar Jihar Katsina is a non governmental philanthropic and charitable organization registered under part ‘C’ of the Company and Allied Matters Act No. 1, 1990 as an incorporated Trustee with the following objectives

• To provide portable drinking water especially to the rural areas worst hit by water shortage

• To support and encourage health and educational development in the best possible ways

• To lay a solid foundation for the establishment of a sound economic base through the setting-up of viable industries

• To fight desertification and enlighten the people on tree planting and the dangers of desert encroachment.

• To serve as an instrument for social, economic, moral and cultural development.
